Avulsion fracture of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) of the thumb
Following on from Case 4 this video demonstrates an example of an avulsion injury of the UCL of the thumb.
The UCL appears significantly thickened and an avulsion fracture maybe seen to the left of the image at the base of the proximal phalanx. The ligament on stressing appears patent and the avulsion fragment stable. The patient was treated with immobilisation for 4 weeks followed by rehabilitation. Click on link below

Longitudinal image of the UCL. The ligament appears as a low echo structure (straight yellow arrows) arching across the joint (curved yellow arrow). A thin anaechoic line maybe seen over the top of the ligament representing the adductor aponeurosis.
